The Annual Neat Streets Conference 2022/23 took place at the Aviva Stadium on Tuesday 24th January. The conference enables students from various participating schools to discuss how best to tackle the issues of litter and waste and provided a forum for schools to share action plan ideas and experiences. Teacher and student groups are facilitated separately for much of the event so as to provide separate and focused platforms for each group to learn independently from An Taisce and their peers.
Attendees also hear from students who successfully completed the programme in the previous year who went on to be awarded the Green Flag for Litter & Waste. The audience learn how the school journeyed through the Neat Streets programme; from initially registering for the programme, conducting their baseline survey, to implementing their anti-litter and waste action plan (which involved purchasing bins and funding various competitions with the Neat Streets grant), introducing recycling and composting, conducting litter picks in the local community, completing the follow-on survey and finally achieving the Neat Streets and Green Flag awards.
